Member of the Orchid Specialist Group, in collaboration with the NGO, Greenhood Nepal, have been undertaking the first study on the commercial trade of wild orchids in South Asia. The study has found that this includes a large, commercial – but illegal – trade in medicinal orchids across Nepal that is rarely acknowledged or enforced.
The team has recently published a Policy Brief that highlights this need for Nepal’s wildlife conservation efforts to recognise this gap, and summarises key information that agencies across the country need to recognise in order to protect the country’s orchid flora.
