Obsession, greed and wickedness: BBC Natural Histories on orchids

Orchids are so beautiful and strange that they have a power to captivate us like that of no other plants. The BBC's Natural Histories programme dedicated an episode to orchids, and tells a story of our relationship with them - one of obsession, deceit, money and beauty.

"Orchids exemplify some of the most extraordinary, most fascinating yet also perverse aspects of human behaviour. They exemplify our desire to collect, to own and to manipulate nature - sometimes even into oblivion."

Orchid Specialist Group members, Jacob Phelps and Amy Hinsley, contribute to the episode, discussing global trade in wild orchids, including for horticulture food and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
